Victoria Guillen Nieto, PhD earned her doctorate in Applied Linguistics at the University of Alicante in 1993, her degree in English Studies at University of Alicante (1985) and subsequently obtained a master’s in Forensic Linguistics at University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona in 2008. Since 1997 she has held a tenured position at the University of Alicante as an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics. She has also taught in the department of English at Polytechnic University of Valencia.
Dr. Guillen has served as the Director of the Master program in English and Spanish for Specific Purposes at the University of Alicante since 2006, and from 2003-2009 she served as the Head of the Department of English Studies.
Dr. Guillen also has experience providing professional language service as a language expert witness. Her professional services have been utilized in 14 cases since 2009.
Dr. Guillen has been an invited scholar to University of Alcalá de Henares, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the University of Salamanca in Spain, to Heinrich-Heine Universität in Düsseldorf, Germany, to Wuhan Central China Normal University in China, to Jules Verne University in France, to the University of Madeira in Portugal, and to Trinity College in Dublin. At Alicante, Dr. Guillen is currently teaching Author Identification Techniques, Forensic Linguistics, and English for Specific Purposes.
Dr. Guillen’s current research interests are language in the law, intertextuality (plagiarism detection), author identification, and language crimes such as linguistic threat, defamation and harassment. She is a Member of the REP Track.
