Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements for TALE:

In the Security-Law-Intelligence Track, experience in law enforcement, private investigation, business intelligence or corporate security may substitute for formal education.

Types of Membership:

Student Provisional Member Member Fellow

Student

  • EDUCATION in a track-relevant discipline, in a program at an accredited college, university, or academy, such as AA, AAS, BA, BS, BEd, MA, MS, MEd, MLS, MBA, EdD, PsychD, SCiD, PhD, JD, MD, DO or POST certification.
    • Enrollment in good academic standing, including on-leave
  • CHARACTER of integrity, honesty, respect for legal systems.
    • Three (3) references are required; a reference form is available for download.
  • TIME LIMIT for Rank
    • Eight (8) years

 

Provisional Member

  • EDUCATION in a track-relevant discipline, in a program at an accredited college, university, or academy, such as AA, AAS, BA, BS, BEd, MA, MS, MEd, MLS, MBA, EdD, PsychD, SCiD, PhD, JD, MD, DO or POST certification.
    • Evidence of the degree (transcript) is required.
  • CHARACTER of integrity, honesty, respect for legal systems.
    • Three (3) references are required; a reference form is available for download.
  • EXPERIENCE working in legal, investigative, security contexts using forensic linguistic evidence (SLI Track) OR EXPERIENCE in researching, developing and testing forensic linguistic evidence methods (RP Track)
    • Five (5) years of track-relevant experience e.g. police officer or police trainer, court reporter, court translator, or interpreter, fraud examiner, forensic document examiner, digital evidence examiner, intelligence analyst in business, executive national security investigations, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, attorney, litigator, legal case manager, litigation support professional, legal assistant, scientific
  • TIME LIMIT for Rank
    • Four (4) years

 

Member

    • Demonstrated and documented ability to lead investigations, with case-related experience using forensic linguistic evidence, litigate, provide litigation support, or demonstrated ability to conduct empirical analysis; provide testimony in depositions, trials, investigative inquiries or Congressional hearings
  • PARTICIPATION in TALE activities such as Winter Meeting, Summer Workshop, LESLI, Telling TALE, LinkedIn Group
    • 1-2 activities per year
  • TIME LIMIT for Rank
    • No time limits; 4 years before applying for Fellow Status

 

Fellow

  • EDUCATION in a track-relevant discipline, in a program at an accredited college, university, or academy, such as AA, AAS, BA, BS, BEd, MA, MS, MEd, MLS, MBA, EdD, PsychD, SCiD, PhD, JD, MD, DO or POST certification.
    • Evidence of the degree (transcript) is required.
  • CHARACTER of integrity, honesty, respect for legal systems.
    • 1 additional reference
  • EXPERIENCE working in legal, investigative, security contexts using forensic linguistic evidence (SLI Track) OR EXPERIENCE in researching, developing and testing forensic linguistic evidence methods (RP Track)
    • Ten (10) years of track-relevant experience e.g. police officer or police trainer, court reporter, court translator, or interpreter, fraud examiner, forensic document examiner, digital evidence examiner, intelligence analyst in business, executive national security investigations, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, attorney, litigator, legal case manager, litigation support professional, legal assistant, scientific
  • PARTICIPATION in TALE activities such as Winter Meeting, Summer Workshop, LESLI, Telling TALE, LinkedIn Group
    • 3-5 activities per year
  • TIME LIMIT for Rank
    • No time limit: Must be a TALE member in good standing to apply
